When Windows 95 and Windows 98 are first installed the default way folders are viewed in My Computer and the Windows Explorer is set to "Open Each Folder in a New Window", which populates the screen with a lot of folder windows that need to be closed when you're done surfing around your drives.

If you'd like to change this behavior so there is only one window used to view each folder as you open it, and only one to close when you're done, follow the list below on the My Computer or Windows Explorer menus:

• View
• Folder Options
• Click the General Tab on the resulting dialog
• Select the "Custom, based on settings you choose" radio button on the General Tab
• Click the now enabled "Settings" button to the right of the previous selection
• On the resulting Custom Settings dialog do the following
• In the "Browse Folders as Follows" frame
• Select "Open Each Folder in the Same Window"
• Click OK on the Custom Settings Dialog
• Click Close on the Folder Options Dialog

Now when you click on a folder, it will open in the same window of My Computer that you are already in.
