Firefox web browser Faster, more secure, & customizable This is a very capable internet browser with tabbed browsing that can restore the last session of open tabs on start up so you can start right where you left off yesterday. It's a good backup in case your IE decides not to work anymore. This is a Mozilla based browser that grew out of Netscape. This browser can be extended with add ons, some of which are very powerfull tools for developing web sites like Web Developer, Execute JS, Firebug, and Javascript Debugger. The links are to their home pages, but to install them to your Firefox browser use the Tools, Add Ons menu item, and search on the add ons name to find the pages where you can install them from. One add on called Stylish allows users to change the way individual web sites look to their own tastes by saving a local style sheet on their computer that overrides the web site's style sheet. For more on that see Skinning Web Sites. How to speed up and organize tab switching in Firefox Internet Explorer Get It Now This of course is Microsoft's web browser which also has tabbed browsing starting with version 7. I don't think it can restore the last session of tabs like Firefox does. Internet Explorer can also be extended with add ons, but there aren't any really usefull ones for web development. Most of their add ons are aimed at simpler tasks like ad blocking, blocking pop ups, web site specific toolbars, and toolbar additions like Live TV which gives you easy access to over 1750 online television stations. To get Internet Explorer add ons click here. The SeaMonkey Project "Web-browser, advanced e-mail and newsgroup client, IRC chat client, and HTML editing made simple -- all your Internet needs in one application." That's a quote from their start page, and this Mozilla based suite delivers a very nice set of internet tools including of course a web browser with tabbed browsing. I have used their web editor Composer to write many of the web pages I've published, but since I've learned to use external style sheets on my site I prefer to edit in a plain text editor as Composer adds CSS styles inline within the pages where I don't want them anymore. Since this is a Mozilla based browser it can use add ons in the same way that Firefox can except there is no Tools, Add Ons menu item to be found, so you need to go to the Seamonkey add ons web site and use their "Install Now" buttons to install add ons in Seamonkey. There are a few add ons which would be useful to a web developer, but not as many, and none as functional as the ones for Firefox. It does have Stylish however so you can get to Skinning Web Sites if you don't like the way they look. Opera This is a very capable web browser with tabs, a way to save your last session of tabs, malicious web site detection, a built in email client, pop up blocking, and many more features. Flock, the social networking browser This browser puts emphasis on collecting together your online social networking information. It has a built in rss feed reader and a built in blog editor. It is based on Firefox and the Mozilla projects, and there are versions for Windows, Linux, and Mac. Maxthon A Wikipedia article I read touts this as the favorite web browser of the Chinese. It has many advanced features and seems to be a very capable browser. It has tabbed browsing, rss feeds, security features, pop up blocking, ad blocking within pages, and in case you closed a tab by accident, it has an undo list which brings it right back. Safari This is Apple's contribution to the browser market. It claims to be the fastest web browser on the block. It has tabbed browsing, reads rss feeds, and has a feature called Snap Back which will take you back to the top of a site once you've navigated down several levels in it. Off by One This web browser is very light on system resources, and is contained within one executable file which makes it portable since it doesn't rely on other files in the Windows/system folder. It is a little behind the times in that it only supports the html 3.02 standard, and we're up to version 4.01 of HTML now. It does have tabbed browsing capablity. Software Releases :: The Netscape Archive Netscape used to be my favorite browser, but they've discontinued development of it. This site has all the old versions available for download in case you still want to use it. Chronological List of Web Browsers This Wikipedia article shows a list of web browsers by the years they came out first, then shows a break down of browsers by their engine type. Very extensive list, if you didn't find a web browser you like on this page you're reading, give this list a try. Like
